Business transformation through mobilising ‘sleepy’ pensions
“In a nutshell, Nick enabled us to transform from ‘two men and a van’ to a sophisticated manufacturing company with a turnover doubling year-on-year,” Claire Wilson quickly summarised, when asked about her family’s experience with Phoenix Accountants.
Claire, a professional bookkeeper, had known Nick Williams through a networking group since 2003. In 2013 Claire’s husband Del and his brother Jay, experts in designing and installing modern aluminium and glass doors and windows, moved their accounting function to Phoenix.
“Nick specialises in tax accounting”, Claire continued, “taking a genuine, detailed interest in our situation and ambitions and figuring out ways to minimise tax legitimately and mobilise funds. As founder and managing director of a bookkeeping bureau I have worked with many, many accountants over the years. Nick breaks the mould. He’s always on hand with a listening ear and sound advice. We trust him completely. When Del and Jay wanted to expand the business we had no hesitation in turning to Nick.”
A case in point: all accountants are not the same
“Timing was everything, in this case,” recalls Mike Hannay, founder and director of Force 4 Computing Ltd in Bristol."
“I’d become a bit disillusioned about my accountant of many years. I’d tried to suggest to him that more of my expenditure could be attributed to my company and therefore tax-deductible, but he’d continually resisted my observations. I was more interested and absorbed in building websites and apps for my clients than sorting out my accounts, so I’d let it go for ages. Then, out-of-the-blue, in about 2009, I received a cold call (not usually welcomed!) from Nick Williams. He’d recently set up his own accountancy practice in Yatton, Bristol.”
Gary Ward
Calm and clear throughout my sea of changes
“I’ve been through quite a few ups and downs over the last few years and Nick Williams has been incredibly helpful throughout,” says Gary Ward. “Always calm, always approachable, always there with sound advice. I can’t fault the guy,” he continues.
“I ran a business in Bristol – Exray Exhibitions Ltd – from 2003, building and installing stands and backdrops to attract visitors to clients’ stalls at shows all around the country. I met Nick in about 2009 and enlisted his company to help me – at first to do my bookkeeping and then to manage all my accounts.”
Very complex tax planning – but also very easy to understand for the lay person
“Nick’s knowledge of tax is phenomenal,” says Lynda Hemmens. “He has come up with various plans for my husband Terry and me which are incredibly complicated – yet he writes everything down in straightforward ‘non-accountant-speak’ documents, backed by spreadsheets to help show different scenarios. It’s very reassuring.”
“I’ve found some accountants to be quite pompous and condescending but Nick is quite the reverse.”
Stephen Price/Park Properties
Twice the service at half the cost – and an exponential decrease in tax!
“I’ve learned many things from Nick Williams and his team at Phoenix,” says Stephen Price, “not least of which that it doesn’t necessarily pay to use so-called ‘big name’ accountants.”
